Why hello there Mr. Stark

Have you ever wanted to make an origami Iron Man?
Well now you can!

Iron Man Origami by Brian Chan

Seriously, how awesome is that? Although I personally would not have the patience to fold all that :P I'll stick to paper cranes and crudely drawing Iron Man's face on it!

Could it really be? New work?

I'll be working on these babies for next week or so. I'm really liking the one on the right with all the hair. I love drawing hair!

Blog revamp!

Photobucket

I needed a change as I don't want to just be seen as a children's illustrator. I want to try other things so I redid my banner and icon to reflect this change. I might still change the banner again, but at the moment I'm happy with it.

If you're viewing this post through a feed click here to check out the revamp.

P.S. I have taken down my website/portfolio as I haven't updated it in ages and I don't really intend to update it either! I'll be overseas from next year and not concentrating on drawing as a job so there will be no need for a website. The address is still active though, it just redirects to this blog :) You can still view my work through flickr.

Anna Sui is to die for!

The lookbook for Anna Sui's collection for Target has come out! Her collection is inspired by the TV series "Gossip Girl" where each outfit invokes a particular female character - Blair, Serena, Vanessa and Jenny. Times like this I wish I lived in America. But I can always dream, and these following dresses I would love to own...

The first four are inspired by Blair, the fifth is Serena and the sixth is Jenny.

RIP MJ

RIP MJ

When I read the news about Michael Jackson passing away, I couldn't believe it, I thought it was a joke. It is such a tragedy that such a great, talented and loving person could die when they are only half way through their life. He still had so much more to give, but we must be grateful that we lived to see him accomplish so much.

Although I don't own any of his albums as I don't buy music a lot, I am a big fan of his music. One of my favourites is "Scream" with Janet Jackson. On TV there was a program about him and the presenter mentioned how in everyone's lives there is a significant moment, and MJ's music is playing in the background. When I think about it, it's so true. Although not very significant, these are memories that have stayed with me.

In year 3, I was 8 years old and my class sang his song "Heal the World" at the school assembly. I remember thinking (and still think) what a lovely song it was and how strong the message is.

And then when I was about 9 or 10 years old, I took dance lessons and we had a big dance concert for the whole dance school. One of the other classes did a dance to the Jackson 5 song, "ABC". Ever since I heard that song, it often plays in my head.

You will be missed MJ, but you will live forever in your music.

Winter Market

Photobucket

Almost forgot to annouce, I'll be at the winter Made on the Left market! It's going to be a special epic two day event, I'll be there on the Saturday at my stall. On Sunday I'll be helping my friend Helena with hers. It's going to fun! If you're from Perth, come take a look.

I'll have pretty much all my currently created stuff on CLEARANCE! Woo! I want everything to go so things will be slashed by about 50%. BUT, I will have some new things too like art prints! They will be new illustrations and a bit different to what I've already done. Not so cutesy (but still cute) and not focused on a children's illustration style. And if you make a purchase at my stall, mention this blog post and you'll get a special gift! YAY!

Fabulous Teapots

I have a major thing for teapots. I don't quite know how it developed, but I believe it comes from being in love with "Alice in Wonderland" and just the lovely quaint feeling you get when you pour a cup of tea.

I received an email quite a while ago from Gail Steele who is an award winning ceramic artist hailing from NSW, Australia. She owns a place called "Ab. Fab. Ceramics" where she runs ceramics classes. Her link to her website sent me to this page. Her students and herself had made a lovely bunch of teapots to auction off for the Cancer Council. I wish I lived in NSW (I'm across the other side of the country), I would love to learn how to make teapots from such a talented person. Here are some photos of what was auctioned at the charity morning tea, with details of my favourites!

I love cats so of course I love this teapot.

And my absolute favourite! How could you resist such an adorable tea set!

If you live in NSW, head over to her website Ab. Fab. Ceramics for more information about taking classes.

Sex on a Stick

Photobucket

Oh my GAWD. I am so excited for this movie to come out, I want Christmas now!!! And I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Jr, so I am doubly excited.

Photobucket

For some reason it looks like Jude Law's face has been photoshopped onto the body, it looks too big!

If you haven't already, watch the trailer and swoooooooon. You have to watch it even if it's just to see Robert handcuffed to a bed naked. SERIOUSLY.
