I've got a huge update in the works and I'll be putting up all my jewellery onto the online shop so that those of you who either don't live in Perth or don't get a chance to come to markets, will be able to see and hopefully purchase my work :)

A new series that I've been working on since last November (oh my gosh really?! Time sure has flown!), is called "Life in the Aviary" and is inspired by my childhood memories of listening to my sister's birds singing outside my bedroom window. She had a large variety of birds over the years and I've featured them all except the canary and pigeon we didn't have but I would have liked to!
Just saw this video on the Hello Sandwich blog. Giving me urges to cut my hair short again! Although I don't think my face is cute enough to pull off this particular style :P
Niina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-81201375664833843332013-01-08T11:20:00.000+08:002013-01-08T11:20:05.475+08:00Hello 2013

It's hard to believe it's already 2013! It's funny how as an adult years just fly by and you wish time would slow down and occasionally just stop altogether, yet as a child time just dragged and it would seem forever until you had another birthday or had summer holidays. Sometimes I still wish I was a child, but when I was a child I don't think I completely realised how great it was to be small.

Anywho! 2012 was quite a year...

+ We bought our first home! It's been fun decorating it and planning for renovations in the coming years (kitchen and bathroom/laundry is going to be completely gutted).

+ Panko came into our lives! He's calmed down a lot now and isn't quite as naughty as he used to be.

+ Although I haven't mentioned it on the blog, I had a liver biopsy (results were normal) and it was one of the grossest things I've ever felt, which is a lot coming from me because I oddly enjoy a lot of the medical things I've had to do (for example : when you get a body scan sometimes they need to put some iodine into you for contrast so they can see what's going on in your scans a lot better, it makes you feel like you wet yourself! It's a very odd warm sensation hehe). But this liver biopsy, they stab a needle into you and I felt the needle stab my liver like a knife stabbing through a thick chunk of meat. Makes me feel icky just thinking about it!

+ Did several pop-up shops and markets with Montage Collective. We intend to do more this year too!

Now I'm sure there were more things but this heat I'm sitting in right now (40C!!!) is turning my brain slowly into mush. Another reason I haven't blogged earlier. My body is not made for this heat! I have a terrible time regulating my body temperature, if it gets too hot I can't cool down easy, and then when I get too cold it takes a long time for me feel warm again. We don't have air-con either, so a lot of the time Mr. A and I spend our time spraying each other with water and sitting in front of the fan i.e. poor mans version of air-con.

I don't have any particular goals this year. I always break my promises so I think it's better if I just don't say anything at all! Instead I will leave you with a photo of my Moomin figurine collection xx
Merry Christmas everyone! The end of this year has been a super busy one for me and I haven't had the chance to blog about any of it. I've got new things in the pipeline for eeva margita that I'm really really excited about. Once Christmas is over I'll have some time to actually share them with you! I hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday, and make sure you eat lots of super tasty food :)
He's almost 6 months old now and an Exotic Shorthair (basically a persian with short hair). I have a thing for squishy faced animals and I'd wanted an Exotic for so long. When we moved to our apartment it felt so weird to not have animals around me. Ever since I was about 3 years old I've always had at least 1 animal around. So we decided to get Panko! He's super naughty as kittens are but you can't stay too mad at that flat face for too long :) Read more about him in my zine, available from my etsy store. Niina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-23398647385658482582012-10-27T05:58:00.002+08:002012-10-27T05:58:39.684+08:00Montage #6!G

Montage is popping up again! Gosh sometimes it's hard to believe that this is our sixth one already. Other blog posts I have up my sleeve is a crafternoon session with a dear friend and a post about some gastronomical delights I've been having lately xxNiina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-70344469007693261112012-08-03T17:30:00.002+08:002012-08-03T17:30:51.319+08:00Pop up Shop & Workshop

No need to worry about fraying, easy to hand sew and comes in a rainbow of colours. Ever since then, I've been hooked on using felt.

My first project was stitching up tiny outfits for my Barbie's babies. I remember I had a mega fat needle (I couldn't find a thin needle, have no idea why!) and it took me so long but I was so proud when I had finished a little blue romper for the baby.

Other projects I did was sewing little animal softies and trying to sell them at flea markets. I don't think I sold any (except to one of my mother's friends who must have taken pity on me) but I had a great time making them. I wish I still had one to see how far my sewing skills have grown but unfortunately they were probably thrown in the bin as I grew up and decided I didn't need things like that.

Even now I don't have a lot of my projects with me as most of the time I made them as gifts for friends birthdays or Christmas presents. However I did take photos and it is always nice to look back on what I have made.

My foray into being a small business has seen me flit from one technique to another but I tend to revert back to felt every now and again. It's a comforting medium and the colours make me just so happy! And my latest project has made me even happier.

The rabbits are my favourite! Don't you love that feeling when you get something right? When it's even better than you imagined it in your head? I'm looking forward to making more and I hope everyone else likes them as much as me. These are going into the pop up shop I'm a part of this month (I'll make a separate post for this) so I will make some new ones to go in the online store.
I took my camera and snapped some pics at the end of the day when the crowd had quietened down and I could have a little breather. There were some seriously amazing things there! I felt a little like I was at the Finders Keepers market (or how I imagine it would feel since I have sadly never been to one). The quality was amazing and I wish I had lots of money to go buy all the pretty things. But I had to be content with just taking photos, which I will share with you all and perhaps you will see something you like!

This is a bit of a mega post so prepare yourself for lots of photos!

Photos of some of my new things - a few new hand painted mahogany pendants.
Hand stitched and embroidered felt brooches. I love the bunny ones I made!! I don't normally fall in love too much with my own work (I'm a harsh personal critic!), but this one my excitement about it rose stitch by stitch. I'll have some in the etsy shop soon.

Whenever I feel like a little snack that's still healthy, I turn to this recipe. I found it in a Japanese magazine called tocotoco. I tweaked it a little to fit into my diet and it's soooo tasty! Try it :D

Miso Cracker
~ Combine 50g gluten free plain flour and 50g buckwheat flour in a bowl.
~ In a separate bowl, mix 1tbs vegetable oil and 1tbs miso paste.
~ Put combined miso and oil into the bowl of flour, add 2tbs rice milk and mix. Once nearly combined, use hands to form into a ball of dough.
~ Roll dough out on baking paper/cookie sheet until 2mm thick. Using a sharp knife, make cutting lines (but don't cut all the way through) roughly 5mm apart, then one line in the middle perpendicular to the first.
~ Bake on a pan in 180C oven for 15-18mins.
~ Cracker should be nicely browned, cool on pan and using your hands break the cracker into little sticks.
~ Enjoy!Niina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-53212507222388116882012-05-30T13:21:00.001+08:002012-05-30T13:21:57.871+08:00Pretty KittiesAnyone who knows me will tell you I'm pretty mad about cats. Although my love for them is great, I don't often draw them because cats are really hard to draw! I've always wanted to draw a series of cats and recently I was super determined to do it. And this is the result - a zine with matching stickers and even a pair of earrings!
I never used to do a lot, just a bow maybe some hand stamped wrapping paper. I think I spent more time on the card since wrapping paper usually goes in the bin. But it's always nice to receive a beautifully wrapped present, it lets you know that somebody loves you :)
When I received my package from Little Paper Lane, I peeled off the washi tape on the package and put it on my wall. It looked pretty cute so I kept adding more tape and then added some instax photos. I think I'll keep adding to the collage, it's just above the dining table so it creates a nice focal point.

Niina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-40330007255698356832012-04-24T17:56:00.001+08:002012-05-29T11:55:31.398+08:00Little Paper LaneOn the hunt for Life as a Magazine's "Little Book of MT Masking Tape" zine, I came across a lovely online shop called Little Paper Lane. As a stationery addict it ticked all my boxes, especially the box called "mt tape". I've been collecting quite a few designs now (which I'll share in another post!) and it's always nice adding new rolls to my collection.

I found the elusive zine as well as a couple of squeal enducing tape rolls. When I opened the package I was surprised to see my goods were lovingly wrapped in striped paper and decked out with tape!

Since the paper had a smooth surface I was able to peel off all the tape to re-use. Don't they look pretty all lined up like this?

These are the two tapes I bought. I love that they are collaged and one has gold on it!

And here we have the zine I was eager to get. It has a little bit of background history on what MT tape is and where it came from.

I want to cover a whole page with tape like this.

There is some collage pieces that Jenna has made from tape and images cut out of Japanese fashion magazines (which by the way always have amazing styling and fantastic layouts).

She includes some projects as well as extra ideas on how to wrap and decorate gifts.

And at the end is a nice collection of books about using tape in different ways.

I really liked how the zine was like a miniature magazine with the glossy cover and colour insides. It had great little tips and I loved oggling the different tape patterns. This zine is a must for the tape aficionado!Niina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-86273248142448769652012-04-23T09:21:00.000+08:002012-05-29T11:55:42.463+08:00Home Sweet HomeIt's been a while since my last post because I've been busy...moving house!! Mr A. and I had been looking for a place since the end of last year. At first we were looking to rent but the rent prices in our desired suburbs were so high even though the apartments themselves were nothing special and many didn't have their own laundry space. On a whim we looked at buying and found that the mortgage repayment and rent were pretty much the same. In February we fell in love with an apartment and it was ours by March! For the past month we've been settling in and slowly finding places for everything. Last time I moved house it was in 1996 and I was 11. Moving is so stressful! But we made it and it feels so good to have our own space.
Washi tape is so easy to use, it tears beautifully, comes in a large rainbow of colours and patterns and it doesn't leave a messy glue mark when you peel it off a surface. It's like magic!

Last week I went into Mt Lawley to one of my favourite shops Zakka Box and bought some flowery tape. Then in the city I was in the Art Gallery gift shop and they had tape too! So I got a stack of the orange ones. The pink pattered ones in the above photo I bought a long time ago from Kikki.k (another well frequented shop). Unfortunately they don't seem to do tapes anymore :( And the black ones are from the Art Gallery gift shop from a year or so ago.

I wanted new holders for my pens and remembered seeing some nice ones in Bunnings (their craft section is pretty awesome). At first I thought to paint them then I had the wonderful idea of decorating them with my washi tape! And ta-da~, this is the result. I first varnished the surface to make sure the tape would stick then I used a craft knife to trim the edges flush. The great thing is, when I get tired of it I can just change the tape! Next time I might try cutting shapes from the tape and make some patterns...I will need more tape :DNiina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-21512257673285987192012-01-02T15:20:00.004+08:002012-01-02T15:43:57.457+08:00Hello 2012

Like last year, we spent new year's eve burning through sparklers and being silly in the back yard. And then we had a ball doing jumping photos, trying to emulate Yowa Yowa Camera (although nowhere near as awesome as her, do take a look she's amazing).

I think 2011 was a little quieter than 2010. It was still a good year and I had fun...
+ With my friends we started the Montage Collective and did not 1, but 4 pop-up shops!
+ I got to watch Gemma Ward in her first play "The Ugly One", she is so stunning.
+ A friend had an engagement party which was actually a wedding! Apparently everyone had figured it out...not me, I was completely duped.
+ Went to Hong Kong in May for a week, love it there so much.
+ Got accepted into the On The Wall exhibition at the Sydney Finders Keepers.
+ Did my very first Upmarket in November!

Last year I made a lot of promises for 2011 which I unfortunately didn't keep. It's always like that with new years resolutions. You make them with the best of intentions, you do fine for a few weeks, at best a couple of months, then they just fall to the side and get consumed by the larger things in life. So for this year I won't promise anything except one thing:

I'm going to be positive.

I am quite a pessimist and sometimes I'll convince myself that things are so so bad that I'll never get out. It's an awful way of thinking and I'm trying to change it so I can stop being sad and just be happy with the present. So hopefully by the time it's 2013 I'll do a post about how happy I was in 2012? Only time will tell :) xoxoNiina A.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935434902045888957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2175566830795540784.post-16292941512724382812011-12-29T11:50:00.003+08:002011-12-29T11:52:18.225+08:00InstagramI got an Ipod Touch for Christmas and have been downloading apps like mad!
