Market goodies

Finally got around to applying for the markets I want to sell at. I had one other thing I was working on but so far it hasn't worked out which is a real bummer, I'll keep trying to make it work though...

But the other things worked out fine and photos came out reasonably well (I am a real rubbish photographer!)

The completed Buhni cushion from the previous post!

I've still got to make about 23 more, that's my aim anyway!

minipaintings

I've posted a WIP in my flickr of these mini paintings ages ago. I really like working on a very small surface, these are little coasters but I thought it would be great as a mini painting.

brooches

I'm loving these. They are brooches made from felt and laminated prints of Little Red. I have to make up some more original designs, I've been thinking of a cuckoo clock!

WIP - Bunny Bust

bunnybustwip

So the clay I mentioned buying on Friday I had the idea to make little busts of bunnies, I have a thing about bunnies! They're not my absolute favourite animal but I still have a weird thing for them and they are always cropping up in my work.

Anyways, once it had dried I'll be painting it!

WIP - Buhni Cushion

wipbuhni

I'm still feeling sick so it's been hard to get on with any uni assignments so I'm going to be behind. I started sewing flowers onto my Buhni Cushion, I'm making a whole bunch for some markets I'm applying for (note to self: actually fill out application sometime soon before deadline comes!).

Also today I bought some clay I'm going to mould into something I thought of on the train home from uni yesterday, I'll take pictures as I work!

What girl doesn't love mushrooms?

Girl loves mushroom

Mushrooms are cute....and tasty too :)

I've been feeling a bit sick since morning it's annoying! I woke up feeling deathly tired, my throat all sore with coughs, joint pain in my knees and my leg muscles kept cramping...gosh I sound like some old woman! Haha I'm only 22. So I didn't get much done today. Enough to hand in an assignment tomorrow but not as much as I would have liked to have completed. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day, fingers and toes crossed!

Oh and before I forget, a big thank you to everyone who has left comments so far :) I love reading them and if I don't reply it's not because I don't appreciate it! I'm just not sure whether people come back to read the comments for the reply or have subsequent comments sent to their email, so if I leave a reply would you notice?

Night all, I'm off to bed!

Fabric patterns

I went to China as part of one of my units and for the unit I had to do a project reflecting upon my experience in China. I decided to create 3 fabric patterns. I saw a bunch of white pigeons in one of the gardens and I was also really enamoured by the lotus leaves and flowers there. The colours also came from China, they had an odd usage of these bright colours.

This blue one is my favourite, I can imagine it on a scarf.

I really liked working on these, it must be fun to create fabric patterns for a living :)

I'm pooped!

Finally finished my assignments for tomorrow!! My wrists are a little achy now from all the painting and colouring in, maybe this is how RSI begins haha.

So I did the first 3 pages of Little Red Riding Hood. I think they came out pretty well, there's a few nit picky things I don't like about them, but overall I'm quite pleased :)

And here's another assignment. The brief was to have an illustration to accompany a magazine article called "I predict a riot" about children having tantrums. I had fun with this one :D

I have another assignment to show as well but I'm so tired now I'll save it for another day :) I feel like all I do are assignments I really should do Illustration Friday or something one day as a break from my routine. Or even do some sewing! I ave a bunch of cushions that need sewing up - I'm making them for a market later in the year. Also some, might I say quite awesome, badges featuring my illustrations :) So look forward to those posts in the future!

Oh my goodness

I am totally coveting this book! I've never been a huge fan of Hansel and Gretel, but this version looks awesome since it's illustrated by Jen Corace and I love the way she draws!!! A must for my bookshelf :)

WIP

Sorry for the lack of updates! I've been busy with my assignments as usual. Yesterday and today I worked on more of my Little Red Riding Hood booklet, painting the finals. I've managed two so far, but here's a shot of one of them in progress to give you something to look at :)

Little Red Riding Hood

In another assignment I'm doing (over the whole semester) is to illustrate the story of "Little Red Riding Hood" into a 13 page booklet I can use as a promotional thing to give to clients once uni ends. It's going to wordless so I have to make sure all the illustrations speak for themselves! So far I have completed the character sheets and am currently sketching out all the pages (almost done!). It's going to be hard work to complete it all but it should be well worth it!

Personal Logo

So another assignment I did was to create a logo for your personal identity. My identity is a childrens illustrator so my logo had to reflect that. This is the final one I decided to use:
logo2

Initially I was going to use this one when I was coming up with ideas:

But as I progressed further in my development I felt the elephant one had more life and a childrens illustrator feel to it :)
Here is another one that I came up with but decided not to use (although my teacher liked it the best - only because I could do hand written type when I apply the logo to business cards, letterheads, etc)

First Post Yay!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!

I'm an Illustration major and I'm in my last semester of uni and will be graduating at the end of the year, how exciting! I've created this blog to be able to follow my last semester and into the future where hopefully I will be a successful children's illustrator ;)

I also enjoying sewing, making things and then selling them so the blog will also chronicle the small steps I take to create a business out of my crafty endeavours.

To save you from more boring type, here is a look at my first assignment I did for the semester for one of my classes. The brief was to create a quilt cover set aimed at 3-4 year old boys. The theme was insects and I chose to challenge myself with ants!

I'll be posting more of my assignments over the next few days, so please check back :)
